Dental Hygiene Vs. Spinal Hygiene

Why is it that we take better care of our teeth than we do our spines? Dental hygiene is when we go for routine dental checkups regardless of mouth pain to make sure that there is no tooth decay, gum recession, plaque buildup, etc…. So why do we ignore our spine health until our “back goes out”? Our spine is the armor that protects our spinal cord. We usually take our spinal health for granted until we have symptoms such as severe pain, numbness, tingling, weakness, loss of organ/bowel/bladder function and even paralysis.

Think of Chiropractic as practicing spinal hygiene. Our spine is healthy when it moves properly. Regular Chiropractic checkups can help you get more pain free mileage out of your spine. Our spinal discs are nourished by the movement of each vertebrae. When we have an injury, joint/muscle stiffness, scoliosis, live a sedentary lifestyle, etc… our spines lose mobility and do not pump fluid into the discs (imbibition). This causes the discs to eventually dehydrate (desiccation) which can lead to painful tearing of the disc, disc herniations and arthritis of the spine. Become more aware of your spine health and your back will not get on your NERVES!

It is very rewarding working with athletes because they have so many different types of injuries that when any patient comes into our office (whether they are an athlete or not) we have probably seen their type of injury before and have experience treating it.

Kinesiotaping

Many of my patients call this "the magic tape" because it is unlike any other tape. Their are many imitators that claim to know how to use the tape but at SCNHS were are certified kinesiotape practioners trained from the inventor Dr. Kenzo Kase. The tape is worn by many professional athletes but can be used to relax tight muscles, strengthen weak muscles and help reduce pain from bruising and swelling for non athletes as well. We use kinesiotape as a adjunct to our other very effective therapies to help provide treatment long after your visit.

Sick Care Vs. Health Care

Sick care is when we wait for symptoms to occur and then seek treatment. Health care is recognizing dysfunction and seeking treatment before symptoms occur. If you, a friend or a family member cannot perform daily activities anymore due to physical limitations than treatment in necessary. Do not wait for pain, the loss of the ability to function will present itself first.

For example:
1.) If you notice that it is harder to get up from a seated position
2.) If you have to sit because standing for too long is uncomfortable
3.) If you cannot perform exercises or lift things like you used to
4.) If you experience stiffness and lack of mobility
5.) If you do not defecate once per day or more than two times per day
6.) If you have to take antacids or experience bloating or gas with eating

These are a few examples of how to recognize poor function/failing health. Our office offers natural ways to prevent injuries, overcome injuries and preserve your health. Practice health care and not sick care by addressing these problems before the only options left are medication, injections and surgeries.

I offer free consultations to see if you are a good candidate for our therapies.

The power of anticipation

When asked "your not the tallest, strongest or fastest. How come you are so great, how come you are so successful?" Wayne Gretzky's answer was "I think most people skate to where the puck is, I skate to where the puck is going." This is the power of anticipation. Anticipate where you relationships, business, health and life are going and you will succeed.
